An experimental Documentary by Klaas de Vries and Joaquim Pintó, exploring the contrasting faces of Iceland. J. Sterkenburg did the color work and compiled and edited most of the soundtrack. An island described by the Roman writer Plinius Secundus (77 B.C.) as follows:
The farthest of all, which are known and spoke of, is Thule; in which there be no nights at all about midsummer and contrarywise no days in midwinter.
The documentary is divided into seven sections:
I Westman Islands (note: the opening scene is taken from the 1983 film "Sans Soleil" by Chris Marker, at the time there was a major vulcanic eruption on the Westman Islands)
II Contrasts
III Hallgrimms Church
IV Comic Book
V Flea Market
VI Suburbia
VII Laugavegur
The documentary is highly experimental and works only if it's watched uninterrupted. Things might last longer than seemingly necessary, but it's done for the effect later in the film. We suggest that you don't even press the play button below at all if you haven't the intention to watch it from beginning to end. In that case you better watch the trailer below.
